I am having trouble installing DNN on local XP Pro machine.

I'm trying to install and I am getting the following error message.

"Connection Error(s):

Meassage: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server

Hey Doug,

This error is probably a result of how SQL Server Express is set up on your machine. As a general rule of thumb, I suggest googling using the most descriptive part of a given error message. Sometimes error messages can be overwhelming, and I'm probably just used to disecting them but - in this case "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server" fits the bill.

Here are some results I found - the first one looks like it could be very helpful.

This was the first error i got. I deleted the install and DB and redid them and still got this. Connection Error(s): Index #: 0 Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider Class: 14 Number: 15350 Message: An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:\Web Sites\Troop127\App_Data\Troop127.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share

Hey Doug,

Check out this resource: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlexpress/thread/6dfdcc22-7a81-4e8f-a947-c1ce6982d4b3/

Can you share what your connection string looks like and also verify that a file of that name exists in your filesystem? Have you had any luck connecting to this database through SQL Server Management Studio Express?

Take care,

Ian
