I just want to make sure I have everything I need to set up a site using DNN.

I'm a little confused on how to actually install DNN.   I'm serching everywhere and I can't find anything.   Anything I can understand anyway.

I'm using DNN at my work but I want to set it up to do some of my own work at home.  Here at work we're using plesk.  I don't have 1300$ to spend on it.  Is the set up fairly easy?  I don't know anything about servers and all that..   I know the hosting company i'll be working with supports DNN.  I know how to use the portal and how to make the skins.

What will I need to actually be able to use DNN>?

I also don't understand why you'd have a "how to install on widows vista"  I always though that you install DNN on your domain via your hosting.. i'm sorry i'm just really really lost,  guess that what I get for being a graphics guy.

It is understandable to be a but confused on how the installation process works.

Typically people will install to XP/Vista to test locally and get things going, or to do custom development.  Then they will install to a remote hosting provider.  The process for installating on a host is quite a bit different than a local installation.

I have a number of blog articles that explain DotNetNuke Installation, Upgrade, Backups and Restores that are available at http://www.mitchelsellers.com that might be able to help you out.

Otherwise there are many people here in the community that are available to provide more direct assistance, sometimes for a small fee if you are not comfortable following instructions that walk you through it.

Good day Mitchel,

First, I'd like to say thank you. I've learned a lot from reading your tutorials and blogs.

Like TWA Jason, I have had a hard time finding instructions that are geared toward newbies. I am unclear on how to do my own DNN upgrade on a remote hosting provider (I use 3Essentials). I have read your instructions, but I am still unclear:
“Once you have downloaded the package, simply unzip it over your existing DNN installation.”

What does that mean? Where is my existing DNN installation? Do I access my existing DNN installation through my Plesk control panel, via an ftp upload, through a File Manager on my DNN web portal, or some other means I’m not even aware of yet?

Any hints?

Thanks much. Negative Phil.
