Hi,

I am new to DNN so please bear with me.

My laptop's operation system is Windows XP Home; thus it doesn't and will not have IIS. I searched the web and found tips on how to install and develop DNN application without IIS. I followed the tips and was able to do just that. But I am still concerned if developing DNN site without using IIS is the right way. Will it cause any problem later on when I need to deploy the site online? Will some features not work without IIS?

I do not know if I should continue DNN development with this laptop or buy a new computer that can install IIS. Your answer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks you in advance!

Tony

there is a 3rd party web server Cassini, which may be used if set to port 80 - though I haven't tried my own.

Thanks for the reply.

The UltiDev Cassini Web Server is a good alternative to the IIS. My question related to DNN: if I use Cassini instead of IIS, will I entercounter restrictions on DNN features, modules or hosting later on?

Thanks.

AFAIK not, the content of the database and all files shall be the same (except necessary adoptions of connection strings in your web.config file)
