When the DNN installation was 4.7 I had to upgrade to a newer active Directory provider in order to upgrade to 4.9. I don’t remember seeing any errors and when I made the upgrade to 4.9 was a successful installation. But the active directory module didn’t work so I just reinstalled it and everything seemed fine (looking at the events now I know the first time I install the A.D. Provider didn’t work).  To me it seem that something is missing from my installation of DNN, something that should’ve change but didn’t, probably a file I don’t think is DB related.

Thanks for your help.

So can you get into the DNN event viewer and see what's happening there by logging in, or if you can't can you look directly through the databases tables?

 Alex

You were right, the problem I’m having is between the third party module and authentication.

thanks

Hi Stendor:

It sounds to me like you are satisfied that with the changes you've made with your third part tool, or something to that extent, and you would like to initiate the upgrade process again.  So it sounds to me like you are asking two questions:

  1. Is it possible to initiate the upgrade process a second time, i.e. your reinstallation of the 4.9.1 upgrade?
  2. If this is possible, what do you need to do to make this happen again?

If this is not accurate please ignore the remainder of this post.  I believe that you can reinstall the upgrade, but would highly recommend try this against a test environment first - in a similar way you have tested your 3rd party module, if possible.  I "think" that the following steps will work:

  1. Copy the DotNetNuke 4.9.1 version files over your existing DotNetNuke website, i.e. the one which was updated once with this same version.
  2. Locate the web.config file in the root directory of your website and open this in a text editor (I like Notepad++ but Notepad is just fine).
  3. Once opened look for the <appSettings> section, and locate the <add key="InstallationDate" value="xx/xx/xxxx"/>, where the "x"s should be present and reflect a recent date corresponding to the first update attempt.
  4. Leave the <add ... key but remove the date, i.e. <add key="InstallationDate" value=""/>, and then save the config file and navigate to your home page.

*It has been a while since I've done this, so any confirmation or modifications to these steps would be appreciated.
**Stendor: If you could setup an environment similar to your "online" or main website, and verify this is all that is needed, then you should be good to go.  There may be a date or two stored in the database, but I just cannot recall for sure.  Database schema changes "may" be re-applied, but should be w/o consequence.  You may want to remove the 3rd party module before this second attempt, and definitely backup both your databse and website files.

Good luck!

John
