Hi All,

How easy is it to relocate a site that has been developed in DNN from one host to another? What process is involved in relocating all the data etc?

Thanks

There is a great backup too - a light / free one and a full one.

What it does is creates an sql backup of your site and the paid one zips your files and whole site into a downloadable zip. I think that's a handy tool.

You can view it here

Then, theoritically you should be able to simply ftp to your new host and ask them to attch the db, make the changes to the web.config, but i'm not sure what you need to do with the MachineKeys - whether you use the ones from release.config.. I would check up on that or at least keep a backup of the web.config to work with incase you couldn't log in again.

Well, yes I do .. it's 8.30am Monday morning here now. My days are long! So much to learn and do. And if i can short cut someone's learning, then it really helps them appreciate DNN as much as I do.  And I'm doing other things, and see the window refresh with more forum entries.

I'm not the only crazy person hrere.  I think you'll find John Mitchell and Cathal and  other non core teamers here adding comments.

Let's just say - the timing of my answers, seems to coincide with the timing of your questions.. and if you're a non coder, that's ok, if you're a coder, you have to wait until the real clever guys are around!
