Hi, I just recently had to pick up on DNN so I'm completely new at this.

I have a bug on a production site (that I did not create) so I decided to create a local copy of it to find the problem. I restored a copy of the database on my local sql server and pulled all the DNN files from the prod. to my local as well. My local IIS is pointing to my local DNN files and the web.config is pointing to my local database. However, when I go to my local DNN (localhost\DotNetNUke) it automatically redirects to my production site. So I looked all over in the database and found the production domain in PortalAlias. I changed the domain to localhost\DotNetNuke and it doesn't work (returns a The Page cannot be displayed error). If I change the domain in the database to anything else, like another non-dnn virtual directory it works. I'm completely clueless as to how this PortalAlias and redirection works. How can I run this backup on my local computer?

Also, as a side question, I tried changing some data directly through the database and the changes doesn't seem to be reflected on my site, why is that? For example I tried to change a user account's email directly in the membership table but when I go to the user accounts page it still shows the old email. The same goes for smtp settings and etc. Is this a cache feature or something?

Thanks

You need to modify the PortalAlias SQL Table so that there is an entry that points to your local enviroment, rather than the development enviroment.
