I just finished running the version 5.0 installation which seemed to run perfectly and went to the page normally, but then when I tried to log in with the Host credentials I just created, it took me to the login page which I filled out and clicked login and then just went back to the front page without any logging in.  I tried that several times to no avail, then switched to the admin credentials (same result) and I even tried registering a test user which worked and showed as a successful registration, but that account wouldn't log in either.  Am I forgetting something?  What could be causing this?  I sure would appreciate some help!

Thanks,

Chip Damsel

sounds like something may be blocking cookies - are you running any software such as norton internet security, if so, try disabling it and seeing if that helps

Thanks for helping - I did try disabling my virus protection (Norton 360) but it didn't change anything.  Have you got any more suggestions?  I sure appreciate the input.

Thank,

Chip Damsel

As Cathal pointed out, this sounds like a cookies issue.  Another possibility I have seen is when there is a problem with the portal alias.  What happens is you login on one domain, and then it redirects to another domain after a successful login.

Is it an update from DNN 4.x or a full installation? If an update, make sure the machineKey (validationkey / decryption key) in the web.config is the same as the old web.config.

Also, if you have basic knowledge of MS SQL, you could always go see in the database for the error log... run the following query

SELECT LogProperties FROM EVENTLOG ORDER BY LOGCREATEDATE DESC

Then try to extract the message from the XML result. Good luck!
