Hi people :)

I have tried to upgrade my site from 491 to 492.

In order to do that I modified the release.config to include the right connection strings to DB, uploaded the upgrade files on my existing site, then tried to open any page of the site, which should have taken me to the upgrade page, but it did not, the site seems to be still running fine under 491, although all the new upgrade files were uploaded.

I then tried to run the /install/install.aspx?mode=install page but it shows the following (in Firefox, page blank in IE):

XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: (mysite)/install/install.aspx?mode=install
Line Number 1, Column 1:

For some reason the upgrade process does not seem to want to start, i did not have any problem upgrading to 491 a few weeks ago.

Has anybody had the same problem, and can help in any way? I have tried reuploading all the files again, but the same happens.

I have autoupgrade set to true in the web.config.

It looks fine as the site seems to still be running but I am a bit worried that something might not be working and I am not aware of it, because of the new files.

Can someone help please?

Many thanks, Thomas

  1. please notice, that you don't have to modify web.config, when upgrading from a DNN version 4.6.2 or later.
  2. please check the version inside host settings and the presence of upgrade log file and its content: /providers/dataproviders/sqldataprovider/04.09.02.log
  3. make sure, autoupgrade is not set to false in your web.config file or execute upgrade manually by calling /install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade

Hi Sebastian, thanks

As explained in the post I did not modify the web.config, the version is still 4.9.1 there are no logs 040902 and autoupgrade is set to true.

Finally /install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade shows the error message above.

It does not make any sense. The upgrade process is completely ignored for some reasons I cannot understand.

Thomas

I am going to download the update files again and upload them to the site to see if maybe they are corrupted.

make sure to unzip the files hiearchically ( I encountered yesterday an installation with all update files in the root folder),
