Ok, I'm finally going to upgrade my 2.12 intranet to 3.2.2

So far my plan is to:

  1. Duplicate my db (db_Upgrade)
  2. Create a new site in IIS. (www.domain.com/upgrade)
  3. Copy entire directory, into a new folder (Upgrade)
  4. Install 3.2.2 on the Upgrade site
  5. Upgrade 3rd party mods/Upgrade dozens of custom mods

Once everything works:

  1. Run upgrade on 2.12 site (this should change the db)
  2. Copy the contents of the upgrade folder to the original folder.

Does anyone have any pointers or resources that could assist me?

Thanks!

let us know how it goes.

I have an upgrade question of my own.  We currently have stuff running on version 2, including some apps built by a consulting company.  Is it possible to upgrade to version 4, or no?  I thought you could from v2 to v3.x, but it sounded like in the book that they were saying that the db tables are all moved around and a lot of the internal stuff had changed.

in moving from v2 to v4, is this going to cause huge problems, or is it not worth going to 4 yet or some other combination of events that I am too much of a newbie to figger out?

thx,
M@

Yeah I think it's most definitely possible, but you will have to upgrade to v3.2 first, then upgrade to 4. Do you have the source code for the applications built by your consulting firm? If no, you may be in a pickle...

No, we're cool on that.  I believe they are the ones that are going to do the migration, so I'm sure they'll move their stuff first.  Ordered the new 4.0 book, and I am going to look around in the dnn site to see what the major differences are btwn 3 and 4.  Is it worth upgrading at this point?

Thanks!
