I upgraded from 4.9.1 to 5.0.1 using Mitchel Sellers instructions from Dec. 22, 2008. After the upgrade when I try to login or access the registration page, I get an error:

A critical error has occurred.
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

If I navigate around as an unauthenticated user, I can view pages. If I click on login from one of those pages, I get the form, but after trying to login, I get a "Fail to load view_state" error.

Can someone offer guidance?

I get the same error, it doesnt matter from which page I try to link to the login page from. Strangely this problem seems to be dependant on which IIS virtual folder I set up my DNN to run under. It works in my test environment, but fails when I try to put it into production. (am updating portal HTTP Alias along with the change)
