Will DNN current version work under sql 2008?

I've inherited a site using current version of DNN w/sql 2005.

I copied the website, setup environment in iis, etc, restored a db copy from backup, but when I try to run, it says site unavailable.

what steps am I missing?  will I have to start from a clean DNN install, and DB, then 'migrate' 388mb existing DNN site, and a 3.2GB database?

Help is appreciated.

There shouldn't be any problems running DNN under SQL Server 2008.

Some steps that may be missing:

  • Did you apply file permissions for the ASP.NET Worker Process account (machinename\aspnet or network service) to the website files?
  • Did you add your new URL as a portal alias (and reset the site after doing so)?
    • The easiest way to reset the site is to make a change to the web.config (like adding a line break somewhere)
  • Do you know that your connection to the database works?
    • Can you login to SQL Management Studio with the credentials in the web.config?
    • Did you migrate/replace the server login that the database was using on the old database?

I think that's probably a good enough list for starters.  Hope that helps,
