so i was setting up to do an upgrade and i extracyed the files to the actual directory of my web site.  and i get this error (see below.)   now  icant get the thing to tell me what the error is no matter what i try. I had a copy of the the dotnetnuke folder prior to the error.  I have even tried deleting the diretory and using the backup copy.  Its still tries to upgrade

any help?

its always good to have a backup. Hope you backed up your database as well :)

restore the files and the backup and just try again. Please make sure this time that you make the proper web.config changes. DNN 4.5.5 does not support upgrading to newer dnn versions by not editing the web.config, so you need to apply the changes your self

The web config had the right statement in it, and the db was backed up as well (off disk)  for the upgrade. Since nothig was working i went ahead and tried to upgrade again. More playing around witthe same error. Interesting thing is I rebooted the box after awhile and when i went back in to look at the mess it worked.. It upgraded.

 

Problem solved sort of.
