I'm installing v5.00.01 on vista, with IIS.  Turns out you need to delete the old web.config file contained in the install edition and rename release to web.config?

The manual says to rename release to web.config, but apparently there are two web.config files when you do that, the original one and the renamed.  That causes a problem.  There's no mention of this.

Then I get this error when I navigate to the local iis site in a browser

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Renaming release.config to web.config is not necessary when using install package. Do not touch web.config without need after the installer has run.

Make sure, permissions are granted for "Network Service" account to install directory and all subfolders. Make sure to include necessary providers in the install wizard.

If this your first attempt to install DNN I suggest to use DNN 4.9.3, which is more stable and easier to install and use.
