I have a production site (http://www.trailshack.com) running on version 4.08.00.  The site uses the core modules for site/user management, etc - but the majority of the site uses custom modules I developed.  Also, rather than developing a separate custom skin, I modified the default.

I want to get to the latest version, but am nervous.

What is the latest production version?

Where can I find a solid breakdown of the steps for upgrading to the latest and bringing across the custom modules and skin mods?

Thanks!

Latest production version is 4.9.3 atm

as long as you did not modify any core code or core extensions in place, upgrade shall be straigth forward and there shall be no breaking changes:

  • backup files and database
  • unzip upgrade package hiearchically into DNN installation directory, overwriting existing files
  • browse your site, if you modified web.config setting autoupgrade to false, you need to brows /install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade manually.

I have created a large number of tables, views and stored procedures to support the custom modules.

Will those be left intact?

Will I need to install the custom modules again?

I hate being so paranoid!

An upgrade will overwrite any DNN framework files, i.e. any changes on these files will be overwritten, any other files (from custom modules) will not be touched.

An upgrade script will be run for the database, performing necessary modification of core framework tables, stored procedures and views, any other objects will not be touched. However, starting with a databse and files abckup is highly recommended.

Sounds straightforward. I will plan and schedule the upgrade as soon as I can.

Thanks!
