Hi, I'm using Visual Web Developer 2008 and SQL Server 2008 Express. I 'm on Win XP without IIS and I'm trying to use the localhost:3955 (the dynamic port assigned by VS) to run DNN. I have set the UsePortNumber key in web.config file to true i.e. <add key="UsePortNumber" value="true" />

Somehow I was able to install the DNN database but if I run the solution it just redirects me to the install page (Portal Alias set in the database). The default.aspx page doesn't come up! I tried setting the portal alias to the same page but of course it now goes into infinite redirect loop. PLEASE HELP!

You are not using XP Pro and IIS Admin from JetStat.com?

Thanks for the reply. Tried installing it but on launching it said "Check if IIS is installed" .. I think it won't work as it requires IIS. as I said I don't have IIS installed. When I try to install IIS Win XP says put the Win XP Professional SP 2 CD.. which I don't have. Further help would be apreciated.

try your original WinXP CD.

You might need to re-apply SP2 after installing additional components.

If its an OEM Windows XP PRO disk your vendor should be able to supply a replacement if you lost it... you might be lucky enough to have an i386 folder on your hard drive which may help.
