Ok, I know this is stupid, but somehow, I have lost, forgot, or changed my initial Host password after setting up a DNN installation.  Nope, must have not put a valid email address in the account either.

Is there a way to find out or reset the Host password without having to start over?

Thanks,
Newtodnn

Newtodnn-
I think this is probably a lot more common than you might guess.  While there is no click-and-fix solution, there are two relatively easy solutions as long as you have edit access to your DB tables.

Solution #1
Assuming your site is still set to the default "open registration, create a new account then go into the database and copy the password (encrypted value) and password salt values from the new account to the host account, effectively resetting your host account password.  Password info is contained in the "aspnet_Membership" table.

Solution #2
Create a new account and just set that account to be a superuser account (i.e., make it a host account).  The superuser setting is in the "Users" table under the column "IsSuperUser".

Cheers!

Hey mamlin,

This is good information.  I was able to get to the SQL database and I see the column you make reference to in the dbo.users table, but where is the actual raw users' data contained?

Thanks,
Newtodnn

Nevermind, I was able to edit the table.  I was just using the tool wrong.

Thanks again,
Newtodnn

I tested both of these solutions, and they both worked.

Thanks again,
