Well First to I'm totaly new with DotNetNuke. I try to install Dotnetnuke directly in my web server, to this I create a subdomain called dnn.mydomain.com. I download the file DotNetNuke_Community_04.09.03_Install.zip, unzip all the files and upload the files to my FTP to the folder DNN (except web.config) . I create a sql database with my web host provider called DNNTEST. Then I edit the web.config file that comes in the zip file in this sections:

    <connectionStrings>
        <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=DNNTEST.db.4499361.hostedresource.com;Database=DNNTEST;uid=MyUser;pwd=MyPass;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    </connectionStrings>

    <appSettings>

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=DNNTEST.db.4499361.hostedresource.com;Database=DNNTEST;uid=MyUser;pwd=MyPass;"/>

   </appSettings>

After this I upload the web.config file to my ftp to the folder DNN. I try to enter to dnn.mydomain.com expecting see the install wizard but shows me this error:

Server Error in '/dnn' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Then I tried using these path:

http://dnn.mydomain.com/install/install.aspx?mode=install

but I got the same error.

What I can do???  Please Help ME!!!!

I some need a copy of my web.config let me know.

Accepted Answer

In the web.config find the section that's talked about in the error you posted above and change the customErrors mode to Off. You'll then get a more detailed error message.

When I do what you said. I can see the problem. The problem was that my DNN folder dont have write permissions.

Thanxs
