I've scoured the web but can't seem to find a set of steps that would allow me to allow me to upgrade my 4.8x install to the 4.9.4 version.  Every document I've read has slightly different instructions.  The consensus though seem to be that all I need to do is copy over the files in the upgrade zip file to my dnn folders and then access the site to get the upgrade wizard.  The problem I see is that the files and folders in the upgrade package overwrites some key folders in my dnn folder.  For example, there is a PORTALS folder in the upgrade zip file that, if copied over to the PORTALS folder in my dnn folder will wipe out my portal files.  So, I was wondering if someone can point me to a file or readme or something that would allow me to safely perform this upgrade.

Thanks.

You will only overwrite files that have been changed.  Visit mitchelsellers.com for the set of upgrade instructions that I trust.
