i was running windows xp home edition and have several websites which were all running fine on my system. then i ran an upgrade to XP Pro and now ALL of my websites are failing and producing SQL errors like this:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

and if i try to do a new DNN website, i get this error:

Error Installing DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 04.09.03
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

anyone know why? or how to fix this?

Probably nobody else runs into this because XP Home has no IIS.  Posting full error messages would of course help.  Google will find you a billion or so links for your exact error message.

so do you have any idea why xp pro and iis would cause all of my old databases to fail? there must be some kind of permission or authentication issue going on. i would think that there are many people out there who are running xp pro and iis and then install dnn. but why they don't have any issue and i do perplexes me.
