why oh why do i get this error when attempting to run the dotnetnuke starter kit installation?:

Installation stopped because the directory for template installation did not exist.  Please run Visual Studio on this computer to create the template directories.

This error message will appear if you have not started Visual Studio as the currently logged in user before you try to install the starter kit.

As the instructions state, simply start Visual Studio, then you can install the starter kit.

If you are only looking to setup DNN to test, and do not plan on doing development you might want to just setup a standard local installation.

i am using visual web developer express - not visual studio (if you go to www.asp.net and go to their "downloads" page and click on "visual studio 2008" - it will keep calling it "visual studio" until you get to the final "download" button and then it refers to it as "visual web developer express" - so i really don't know what the difference is.

i tried what you suggested (but with visual web developer express) - i started visual web developer express and then tried the dnn starter kit install but received the exact same errors:

"Installation stopped because the directory for template installation did not exist.  Please run Visual Studio on this computer to create the template directories."

Hi,

Even i am gettin same error. I am usin vista and 5.1 ver of DNN. is this new version problem or my system?
