Hi,

I have sucesfully installed 5.0 and see that 5.1 is now available - this will be my first upgrade.  I have downloded the 5.1 upgrade zip file but - try as I might - I can't find an upgrade procedure.  Obviously, I want to avoid overwriting the web.config edits that I have built up and the application edits to date.

Can someone please advise as to the step by step procedure for performing the upgrade?

Many thanks,

Steve

Start with a backup of your files and database.

Next, simply unzip the upgrade (!) package hierarchically into your DotNetNuke installation directory, overwriting existing files (no fear, there is no web.config included)

Now browse your site to start the upgrade wizard (if you set "autoupgrade" to False in your web.config, you need to browse to "/install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade")

Is this the procedure that we should follow even if we have the source version of DNN and not the install version? We are new to DNN. We've been working with the 4.9.6 source version and want to upgrade to 5.1. We followed the above procedures and the upgrade seemed to work and the site looks fine. However, if we try to compile the DNN solution, we get 138 errors. Our guess is that this is because we got the updates to the Website folder, but not the Library folder. We can't seem to find any documentation on how to perform an upgrade on the source version. We obviously don't want to overwrite any of our changes. So far we have imported a number of custom modules, changed references, created our own custom membership provider and added hundreds of documents and images. Any help would be appreciated!!
