hi,

I'm trying to move a dnn website from production to development, because i have to do a lot of changes to this site.

what i already did:
- copy the database into my own db
- configured the usual stuff in iis
- changed the httpalias to localhost/facr in table dbo.portalalias
- all other aliases are removed
- changed the machinekey in web.config in a local one
- the permissions on the folders are correct

no I still have a insignificant error:

DotNetNuke Error

An error has occurred.
An error has occurred.

an in the url you see: http://localhost/facr/Default.aspx?tabid=279&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

anybody?

please make sure, not to edit machinekey, it is needed for encryption of user accounts and needs to be kept when the site is moved.

make sure to restart application and clear your browser cache.

Just wanted to reply that in my case I found the error in the EventLog database table where there seemed to be an issue with a skin not being there.
Having looked at Config\DotNetNuke.config I saw the default skin was MinimalExtropy which I had not installed.

I unpacked the skin to the Portals\_default\Skins\MinimalExtropy folder, did the same for the container, and my site is now up and running.

Thought it might fixed your problem.
(FYI: I'm running 05.01.00 (773) Community Edition)
