I tried to upgrade V04.09.00 to V5.1.0 and got the following error.

 Installing Package File CorePermissionProvider_05.01.00_Install:  Error!

No other errors. Of course I couldn't access the Host section of the site and ended up restoring the previous version.

this was the error when trying to access host or other admin pages after logging in, which was probably because of the above install error. :(

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Common.Globals.formatVersion(Version version, String fieldformat, Int32 fieldCount, String delimiterCharacter) at DotNetNuke.Services.Upgrade.Upgrade.UpgradeIndicator(Version Version, String PackageType, String PackageName, String Culture, Boolean IsLocal, Boolean IsSecureConnection) at DotNetNuke.Services.Upgrade.Upgrade.UpgradeIndicator(Version Version, Boolean IsLocal, Boolean IsSecureConnection) at DotNetNuke.UI.ControlPanels.IconBar.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

OS is Windows 2008 and IIS 7.0, 64bit.

Any idea what might have caused this error and what I might do to prevent it on the next upgrade attempt?

Thanks,

John

the upgrade tries to install a new provider, make sure, the ASP.Net user account has full permission for the DNN installation directory and all subdirectories.

Thanks.

Wouldn't the "LocalSystem" account have access to all directories?

No, "Network Service" doesn't get access to all folders by default for security reasons.

Thanks again Sebastian,

Well, I'm going from better to worse. I added the ASPNET account to the root directory, all sub directories and files. I then unzipped the upgrade package to the root directory and went to the install directory in my browser (http://www.xxxxxxx.com/install/install.aspx?mode=install) nothing. Just a blank page. and if you look in the status bar it says "Done",

No other upgrade has ever given me this much difficulty. What do you suspect might be the problem? Also, I don't know if this makes any difference, but my backend db is SQL 2008, which I don't think I mentioned earlier.

Thanks again,

John

PS I wonder why the notify is not working on the forum? The box has been checked, but not notices of your replies...also getting errors when I try to search for my user name in the search too.
