This is on my test instance, so this isn't a show stopper right now.  I had 5.0.1 installed on my laptop, and downloaded the new 5.1.1 upgrade package to apply it.  Before I copied in the new files, I made a copy of both the existing site and database.  When I tried to bring up the site, it ran for about 2 minutes and then said the server was unavailable.  I went back to the old files and everything is working fine.  If I try to use the upgraded copy, it never makes it to the Install page.

I went and looked in the Event Log and it looks like I'm having IIS issues with entries in both the Application and System logs.  Any ideas on what I can look at?  This could just be a issue with the laptop and won't have problems when i update the host, but it sure would be nice to be sure.

You could check the event log tables for DNN (via your SQL management console).
The IIS error doesn't tell me much.

Thanks.

I'll take a look shortly and post back anything that I find.  I have a suspicion that it's not even getting that far since IIS dies, but I'm not sure.

The other two things I'm already planning to try are: 1. redownloading the zip file (incase something happened in transfer) and 2. copying the production site down to test, just to make sure everything is identical

plase make sure as well to unzip files hierarchically and upload properly, overwriting existing files. Do NOT touch web.config manually.
