Hi all, I have read that many of you are trying to upgrade your DNN 4.9.4 sites to 5.1.1 to gain all the new advantages of the latest release. Well, I would too lite to do this upgrade but I do not yet dare.

I am using DNN 4.9.4 Source version and would like to upgrade to DNN 5.1.1 CE Source version. Have any of you guys done this already ?

I have a plan !!!! ;-)

1. I will start backing up the website and database.

2. Then I will do a new fresh install of DNN 5.1.1 CE Source version.

3. Then I will copy all website files relating to my portals and modules over the DNN 5.1.1 CE Source version.

4. Change the web.config database reference.

5. START UPGRADING.

I have used this method for all upgrades up to 4.9.4 without any major issues. Am I thinking in the right direction or have I missed something ?

The default way would be:

  1. Make your backup
  2. Copy DNN5.1.1 upgrade over website
  3. Upgrade
  4. Copy all source without /website ot of the zip package.

The first three items I can follow BUT, the third one I would expect to result in errors. The structure of directory, files etc are totally different between 4.9.4 and 5.1.1 so I would end up with a mix of structures and duplicate files etc. if I only copy the 5.1.1 source over the 4.9.4 source. Any thoughts and Ideas ?

If you have further concerns - then copy your site to your PC, and perform a test upgrade.
