Hi,

I'm new in DNN, so, I've download the Installation package 5.1.1 - New Installation file. Then after a unzip, I've edited the web.config  file according with the DotNetNuke_Install_Package_Installation_Instructions_052609.pdf file.

So, after a file transfer in my web site, I receive this messages:

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Can, anyone helpme to start dnn i my web site?

Thanks in advance

Valerio, you will need to provide more information in order for us to be able to help.  That message that you pasted basically says ... "An error occured but I'm not going to tell you what it is".  The rest of the message tells you what you need to do in order to see what the error was.

Once you've made the change to your web.config so you can see what the error was, let us know.  Also, I would highly suggest that once you see what the actual error was, change your web.config back, you do NOT want to leave it so that detailed error information is displayed. (for security reasons)

Hi,

I very "new" in this matter, so, I made this in web.config;

<customErrors>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="customerror.htm"/>
    </system.web>

</customErrors>

Well, the result is the same, and the customerror.htm isn't write in any part of the site.

Can You help me step by step to find a solution?

Thanks

the message says to make one change OR the other, you've made both :)

Just change  your web.config section to look like this..

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

My apologies Steve, and thanks for Your patience, I' try all combination and Your suggestion have the same result,  so, I suppose I've make an error (or "errors"), in the installation process.  Find my steps:

1-after a download Unzip the installation package

2-edit the web.config to MsSQL access

3-with a ftp client (filezilla) i've open ftp.mysite.org

4-I make a new dir so: mysite.org\dnn

5-then I put with ftp client all file unzipped in new remote dir such: disk:\dnn\*.*  --> ftp.mysite.org\dnn\*.*

6-after this I call the new dir with browser: http:\\www.mysite.org\dnn

7-the result is a described error page.

Thats all.

Thanks again.

Valerio
