Currently using

04.09.00

Tried to upgrade to the most current stable version of 5 and ended up with a few errors that blew out the site.

Restored the database from backup, and upzipped (might have deleted the files but I don't recall) the backup files for the site and all was good until... Today, and thus this post, there were some modules listed in Available modules.

Problem is, they are already installed and when I go to install them via the check box, click install module it does its thing then it remains on the list.

Ideas on how I can get reid of the list of modules after assuring myself that the modules are really installed?

Oh, and I also tried installed a select few modules in hopes that they would go away from said list. No luck.

Thanks!

Check in the installs directory under modules.  For every modules in this directory that there is a resources file for, these will show up in the list as available to install.  Try deleting the ones you know are already installed and they should be removed form the list.  Of, course, if you want to keep any of these files, make a backup of them somewhere before you delete them.

I'll give it a shot, but as a member of the core team isn't there a better solution? With the exclusion of deleting the offending modules from the Module Definitions page, as I think this would be bad because the modules are in use and the content loss would be irreplaceable.

Also, this begs the question. How come installing them isn't working as it should? There are no errors in the Events log, that I saw.

The list of available module, skin, etc are built based on what resource files are in this directory.  So that is working as designed and it has been this way for quite some time.  I agree it might not be a bad idea to be able to delete the "Available Extension" from within the Extension interface.  I would log this as a request for an enhancement to a future version of DNN.

As far as the modules not installing, you might have found a bug.  I would also log this into Gemini and give as much detail as possible (What version of the modules are installed, What version is showing as being available to install, what version of DNN are you using, etc).  Also please post that information here also because it might be that the reason for the issue is that you are running 4.x and the modules in the module folder are left over from the 5.x upgrade that failed.

Hi Shawn

By deleting items from there the expectation is that I'll never need it again or is that the area where all things go, and if DNN is functioning properly that file area will always have something in it?

As for the restoration process, I did the following. Deleted the database, deleted the file area (I think), and restored from backiups.

Would you like to supply a link to Gemini, I have been there a couple of times but never seem to find where I'm suppose to post a bug. I did see the list of possible posting areas and only one of them seemd to have a Report a bug link. If it's some sort of permission issue to be able to post bugs, could you look in to it for me? Thanks.

By the way, I have my email address in the system, but never receive notifications. Something wrong someplace?

As for the rest of the info -

DotNetNuke Version - 04.09.00
