I get the following error when trying to install new modules...

Failure
ExceptionSystem.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.Config.AddCodeSubDirectory(String name) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnInstallerBase.CreateModuleFile(PaFile File, PaFolder Folder) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnInstallerBase.CreateFiles(PaFolder Folder) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnInstallerBase.Install(PaFolderCollection folders) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install()

We are running DNN v4.8.4 on Microsoft Server 2003 and SQL 2005. Any ideas out there as to what might be happening. Any help is much appreciated!

Assuming that you have already checked to ensure that the ASP.Net worker process account (ASPNET or Network Service) has write permissions on the site's web.config file and that the file does not have its read-only attribute set, you may be encountering this issue that was logged in Gemini:

The issue was fixed for DNN 5.1.1 but I don't recall that it was for the 4.9.x code base.

I figured out the issue. Turns out the problem was with an entry in the web.config file:

Found the suggestion from another post.
