I'm trying to setup my dev environemnt on a windows 7 pc. However despite checking the file permissions I keep geting the following error:

Could not find a part of the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNukeSeries\Config\Backup_20099242022\web_.config'.Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNukeSeries\web.config' is denied.

Both the Network Service & ASP NET users have full permissions.

Any ideas what the cause is. ( I'm using the latest Starter Kit  (5.1.1)

thanks

Tony

Windows 7 uses IIS 7.5.  There was a change between IIS 7 & 7.5 so that the user account that it uses by default is no longer NETWORK SERVICE.  It is IIS AppPool\[app pool name], so for the default website, it is IIS AppPool\DefaultWebSite AppPool\DefaultAppPool.  Try assigning permission to that account and seeing if it helps (make sure when you're assigning permission that you select your local machine as the location, rather than the domain, if you're on a domain).

Hope that helps,

Thanks Brian.  By default it's  IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool.

fyi.. This does not get listed if you go to the advanced tab and 'find all' users.  You have to type it it.

thx again

I am having this same issue. What is the correct process for changing the permissions for IIS? I am not on a domain.

Thanks

Ray

Right click on your website's folder, and select Properties.  Select the Security tab, and then click the Edit button under the list of group and user names.  Click the Add button to add your application pool's identity.  Make sure that the location in the dialog is your local computer, then type in IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool (or the actual name of your app pool if you aren't using the default).  Click OK, then check the box to Allow Modify permission for that user.  The click OK twice to close the dialogs, and check your website again.

Hope that helps,
