Hello everybody, I have the sort of the same question.

Ik lik to upgrade from DNN4.x to DNN514 but when I run the upgrade pacckage, i get a lot of upgrade errors. These are SQL upgrade error but also application upgrade errors.

if you are on DNN 4.5.1, you should upgrade in multiple steps, I suggest upgrading via 4.7.0 and 4.9.5.

The first step requires manual adoption of web.config file, while subsequently, DNN is able to perform this step automatically.

Thank you for the answer. I upgraded successfully from 4.5.1 to 5.1.4.

During the test I found a very strange error!!!
These are the steps to reproduce the error:
1. Go to Admin -> Site Settings.
2. Click Update.

But the Update from Host -> Host Settings is working properly.

Error: Site Settings is currently unavailable.
