I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong. I am attempting a remote install of DNN 3.2.2 on my 1and1 Internet site, and I keep getting this:

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error
The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

The stored procedure 'dbo.GetPortalAliasByPortalID' doesn't exist.

I am sure you have seen this problem many times. I have been trying to work around this for about two hours to no avail.. I've followed every bit of instruction I could find, and searched every forum for this error message, and not one bit of progress.. What is the solution to this problem if I am dealing with a remote host? (I got DNN4 to work on my local machine just fine.)

I gave the whole /dnn/ directory, with its subfiles and subfolders, the permissions they need through 1and1's control panel.. the database information in the connection string is correct - believe me, I have checked and double-checked the connection string upwards of fifteen times. No mistakes, yet it won't work...

Can anyone offer some help? thanks...

I've seen this before. I just deleted and recreated the database. I think my problem was related to an interupted or problematic install (it didn't finish all SQL scripts). This might also be a problem with a modified web.config file - namely, changing the object qualifier of the data provider.

Did you try to do a fresh installation into a folder where a previous installation existed?

If so, i think you need to delete the dnn.config file from the /install folder (obviously save a copy in case im wrong on this one).

Then navigate to default.aspx and let it run the install.

Recreation of the database solved this one for me too.

I was doing an upgrade so I couldn't recreate the database.  I renamed the installs\dnn.config to installs\dnn.config.OLD re-ran the installation, and it finally upgraded.  Thanks for the posts.  I have been trying to get the 3.2.2 instance to connect for over 2 hours.
