Hi... here is the message I get after a while once I have copied the 4.0.3 install files over my 4.0.2 install files. This also happens the first time I run the "install mode".

After I refresh the page, the page shows as normal running in 4.0.3. This seems to happen if the site hasn't been utilized for a while and the install process seems to run again.

Is this a hosted installation or is it your own server?  I have one DNN4 site that is hosted, and I have two others that are hosted on my own servers.  When I upgrade my own servers, it goes smoothly, but when I upgraded my hosted install, I had some different things that I had to do for some reason.  There are some encryption keys in the config file that I had to restore from the previous version which only effected my login access, but I hear that there are other things that could be different in a hosted environment.

It's hosted on my own server... it is used for an intranet portal. I wonder if the Windows authentication has anything to do with it... the error mentions the DotNetNuke.Security.Authentication namespace.

Only thing I did was copy the 4.0.3 install files over my 4.0.2 folder. Kept the web.config the same. When I roll back my install, I copy everything back, and I don't have any issues with it doing this on the 4.0.2 install.

Well, DNN 4.1 should be out either this week or next from what I hear.  You might want to just wait to upgrade when that version come out.  There is suposed to be alot of fixes and changes on DNN 4.1.

When I did my first upgrade, I just setup a quick install in a seperate directory for the sole purpose of testing things on before I do them on the production site.  Maybe you can try doing this to help learn the upgrade process on.

Is there a reason that you are using windows authentication?  Is it so that your AD users can log in?
