i have been trying to install 4.0.3. for the past 8 hours and have had nothing but problems and have seen a varity of errors.

I tried following the setup in the docs folder and that did not work, tried both the install and source versions and that did not work.

i have seen the DotNetNuke_template.mdf missing error, cannot connect to the database error etc etc. It is not clear what databases are or needed what they should be named and where they should be located.

i really want this to work i have heard nothing but good things about this frame work since i first tested the ibuyspy portal 3 years ago.

i have a brand new amd dual core machine running xp pro for development.
i have installed visual studio 2005 professional.
i have installed sql server management and have sql express running.

I want  to install this on my development machine test it and then deploy it when i have my web site up and running.

is there a step by step guide that words for an XP pro development machine.

God I hope so because right now I am ready to throw up my hands. I don't know what to say or where to turn.

thanks for any and all help.

What database are you connecting to? I've seen the template.mdf error you referred to, but this was due to an invalid connection string. Try explicitly logging into SQL Server with the username/password you specified in your web.config. My guess is that this is your problem.
