This is so frustrating!

Previously I have attempted an install of dnn on a 2003 server as described in the install manual.

From what seems so easy from all the tutorials I have watched and read it looked easy! Not the case.

I would install as described in the welcome screen within VWD, all went well. I applied all the security rights and whatever else was described to do.. Within VWD I punch ctrl+f5, VIOLA! Here is my portal! Whaaahoo! My excitement is short-lived as this is the last time I can access the portal. Not within the browser of IIS or VWD.. (page cannot be displayed)

This is a server that has been running for a bit and I figure there is something wrong with the os/ install, whatever..

I reinstall the ms server 2003 os, asp2.0, vwd, and dnn..

I attempt the same thing, same result..

For kicks I create a starter personal website though VWD.. This thing runs and ran from the beginning with NO issue.

I love the idea of the DNN portal and all the technology that comes with it, but I guess it was not for me to experience. So if any of you are truly running a dnn site, you are a better IT dude than me. Mebbie I will pick this thing up again after my hair grows back in and/or wish to kick myself.

It is frustrating but don't give up on it just yet! Its things like this that make us better at what we do. Its in my opinion the best way to embrace and learn technology. I believe someone else said here that once you get it rite the first time it gets easier and easier. So why not just leave it alone for a few days then comeback to it fresh minded?

Best of luck

True,

that is how i have had some of the best learning experiences. i did put it away from the initial try(before the unneeded server rebuild). but i was hoping to convey that i did apply sufficient effort! I have purchaced books, read articles, watched tutorials, read and posted here on this forum! So now i will play with the VWD personal website frame and possibly learn more. although i didnt have an issue with the install there!

thank you for the reply!

Did you consider setting up DNN from the install file instead of the VWD version?  This eliminates the need to install extra software such as VWD on your computer if all you want is to complete a successful install.  Download and read my install guide by clicking HERE.  If you follow this short 4 page guide, you can setup DNN in 10 min.

Good luck,

Yes,

the last 2 attempts were done this way.  Also, i did print out your directions and folowed them. (the most comprehensive directions i have found so far.) the only difference is that i used VWD to create a database to use. (SqlExpress) I have a copy of sqlserver2000 at the house, but it is not installed on the server. my last attempt will be to folow your directions with the sqlserver2000. i did attempt it once before with full sql (before i found your directions) with the same results. Thank you for providing the instructions to the community, and the reply.

I have opened a remote to the server (im working mostly on my server from a remote location, i have more time to work on it this way)
