I know this has been posted before but please bare with me.   I am new to dot net and DNN and just trying to get it installed to play around.

I am getting the following error on the install wizzard of the 5.02.02 install:  

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 14
Number: 15382
Message: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed.

I have gone into the defaultAppPool and changed the following:  Identity to NetworkService and Load User Profile to True.     This seems to fix most but not mine.     In my  web.config the following connection string exists: <connectionStrings>

In my DotNetNuke web folder on the ASP.net database connection String has an entry named SiteSqlServer and custom button selected with the following string:  Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;

The wizzard wont let me past the db connection tab and I am stuck.   Any help would be appreciated.    I have searched and searched but either I am not understanding solutions or they are not working.

Thanks for the reply.   I thought I gave Networks services those permissions but I did have some issues with that.   Can you give me the exact steps for windows 7 and I will verify if is is correct.   I could possibly not be had trouble finding the Network Services user.

Also it is a vanilla installation and yes I did not change anything in the install wizzard  on the database connection page.   Even when the install starts it give me the "cannot connect to DB error".    I must be missing something here on your last statement.

I read the article and it looks like I match.   Let me summarize on the key points and what I am looking at.

I go to the path where dotnetnuke is extracted.   c:\dotnetnuke.

I right mouse click on it and select properties and click on the security tab.

I have one user called Network Service.   It has modify, read&execute, read, write and list folder contents

I have another user called IUSER.   It has read&execute,list folder contents, read.  (I am assuming this is the IIS_USRS you are referring to)

I am usinge SQLExpress 2008 from what I can tell from the download.   In the configure database connection, I have the SQL Server 2005/2008 SQL (Express) file radio button selected.    Left everything default from the instrucitons.   In the database name field, it defaulted to Database.mdb and the integrated secuirty box is clicked.

When I hit test connection, I still get the very same thing, I would not think the default install should be that difficult.  Totally confused on this one.
