Hi,

I have a DNN site on a DMZ which currently users a uid and password set in the connection strings in the web.config file.

I would rather use Windows Integrated Security as I feel that having the connection string settings in a text file in IIS is very insecure.

Am I right in saying the user is ASPNET?

The DMZ is called DMZ1 but if I try and set up a user called DMZ1\ASPNET then SQL Server says user does not exist.

Any guides on setting DNN up with Windows Authentication?

P.S. I am using SQL Server 2000 and DNN 4.0.3 and the SQL Server is on another machine behind the DMZ.

It depends on the version of the OS you're running. By default If it's windows2000 then it's the servername\ASPNET user, if it's windows2003 it's the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE. However if you're running the SQL server on a different machine from IIS, then you'll have to change the accounts to be domain accounts, so the SQL can see it, and grant permissions. If you take a look at the "DotNetNuke Installation Guide.pdf" doc in the documentation download, it has a section on granting sql permissions - it's only for sql authentication at present, but it details the majority of the steps you'll need to do.

I have read the installation guide again but it doesn't detail how to make the nt authority\network service account a domain account.

Any ideas?

You cannot make a local account a domain account, you will have to create a new account or use an existing one for the purpose.

Take a look @ http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2xzyzb0f.aspx and http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bsz5788z.aspx
