;Last night - I installed DotNetNuke, using the downloaded 'template' for VS 2008.& It installed, I was able to log in, create profiles and new pages

This morning I rebooted my machine, the splash page would start, then I would get authority errors every time I tried to either login, register or push any of the page menus. I did my scowering of the web - and tried 'all' the security changes to no-avail.  The shotgun is worn out!

So - I blew everything away, opened VS 2008 and went to re-create the site.  Using the 'Auto' feature - I get completely through the install, all the way to my splash page.  And... there... the magic stops.  If I push Login, Register, Home ...  I get the Installation Wizard, all over again.   Additionally, I notice that the URL changes from the http://localhost:port#/icus/ to http://localhost/icus/InstallationWiz....

I've tried re-installing more times than I have fingers  So - what endless loop did I start for myself (and errors on the DB install

Are you using IIS or VS built in web server ? make sure the web.config don't get modified and also make sure not to compile the site (DNN does not support pre-compile). I always prefer to install DNN using install package or even Microsoft Web Platform Installer (www.microsoft.com/web) and use starter kit for installing module templates only.

Yes, using Windows 7 and whichever is the current build of IIS for W7 Ultimate.

I'll review the web.config and make sure that it is not getting modified.

I guess I didn't realize that DNN requires compiling.  Is that done from VS2008 or is that one of the steps during the install (I haven't captured that step when reading the docs).

I'll try with the Web Platform Installer (I am fairly familiar with that).

Guess I'll try starting over, again, tonight - thanks for you help Sebastian!

I tried the Web Platform Installer, but it requires SQL Server (not express).  Why can't they make a WPI for those of us that are trying to introduce ourselves to DNN?

Web PI does not require SQL Server and you may install Express edition (including Management Studio) using it.
