I just removed all entries from my portalalias table, then I added in one new entry in the table pointing to http://localhost/dotnetnuke , and then I reset IIS and then when I tried to browse to the local site it says that the program cannot display the webpage ... however my entry in the portalalias table has an PortalAliasID of 25 should I change that to 2 or should it not matter? also should I change the local from http://localhost/dotnetnuke to localhost/dotnetnuke or should that not matter either?

I believe the alias should be localhost/dotnetnuke no HTTP:// included.

The ID shouldn't matter as long as there aren't any other IDs in there defining a different alias for that portal.

Have you tried using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer, just to get the basic set up running on Windows XP Pro for VWD 2008? This program works like a charm! Then after this is up and running you can try modifying the config file to point to a different database. I have run into a similar issue of getting the wrong site. I believe it was a permission issue. If the credentials are not correct, you will be redirected to a default page. Hope this helps.

Chris,

I updated the portal alias table so that it points to localhost/dotnetnuke instead of http://localhost/dotnetnuke, but that didn't help it still brings up the error that this page cannot display the webpage. Any other ideas?

Bill,

I haven't tried using VWD, however, this project was originally developed using VS 2008 and I wanted to keep my environment consistent with one the program was originally developed on.

I was thinking about trying to run the debugger to see what is exactly going on in the code. Now I'm not trying to debug it by clicking the debugger in visual studio, I want to try and do it through IIS. So what do I need to do, to do this? I know I need to attach to a process but which one? besides that is there anything else I need to do?
