Moderation is important to ensure posts are on-topic and not offensive. Without this, the forums could theoretically be littered with useless information, which would make getting and finding answers to problems unbearable. This would ultimately kill the community that is backing DNN right now. Moderation isn't a new concept. Asp.net moderates their forums, too.

Note, you will get unmoderated after a significant number of posts, proving your reliability.

I was originally not moderated way back; then when the new (now old) forum was set up, I was moderated initially and then taken off moderation. (Interestingly, it was after I made a controversial rather than pedestrian suggestion.)

Now once again moderated.

I don't have a problem with the concept - it's good. But it would be nice if there were a simple button to click that would send a "please unmoderate me" request to someone.

I am less glued to the DNN forums than I once was, and additionally tend to post less because I am moderated. Not complaining, just noting. For those of us who have already achieved a "significant number of posts" in previous incarnations of the forum, and would be recognized by a moderator as such, the ability to request at the click of a button would be handy.

Doesn't mean it would be automatic - just a convenient way for someone to receive the request, and make a judgment.

Or is there some way already to request this without having to do so in public forum? Other than posting a lot and thus getting somehow recognized as reliable all over again?

I'm not sure why you would be unmoderated and then moderated again, except that you do not have a large enough post count to be unmoderated unless we recognise your name as being unmoderated on the asp.net forums (controversial suggestions are fine, as long as they do not violate forum guidelines e.g. are not flaming or profanity. I have to admit I don't recognise your username , but am happy to take your word for it and have unmoderated you.

I appreciate your point about the 'request to be unmoderated', but as there is a limited number of moderators, and we were mostly top posters on asp.net anyway, we're managing to unmoderate most people quickly at present.
