I have a website running on a live dedicated server that I want to install on my local PC for development.

The local PC is a fresh install of XP Pro SP3 (all updates installed) with MSStudio 05 and MSSQL 05 (also all latest Service packs and updates). I installed IIS (Version 5.1)

I created Back up of the site and the DB and copied them locally for installation.

I created the website in the wwwroot folder through IIS and then set properties in the IIS dialog for the site as per instructions in Mitchel's Tutorial. when I click to browse the site I got the error: "Access denied by ACL on resource IIS"

After reading this thread I thought I resolved the problem by installing  XP Pro IIS Admin. This rang a bell because I remembered not being able to run multiple websites on XP at the same time.

But when I started in today thinking I was moving On i noticed that the website is going out to the live server now. All the properties in the IIS dialog look like they are pointing locally. Im thinking maybe something in the DB? any help would be appreiciated.

You should add correct portal alias for you local server(PortalAlias table in db).

Maybe it loop redirect issue. Please check this post http://www.bestwebsites.co.nz/dotnetnuke/solving-the-dotnetnuke-redirect-loop/. If browser not detect number of redirects it can infinitely do redirects.

ok I read the article and checked I am running 3.5 so I made changes as instructed.

So now I can get to the site and login. However 2 things are happening now

  1. Some of my modules are getting the following errors The base class includes the field 'Updateprogress1' but its type (system.UI.UpdateProgress) is not compatible with the type of control (System.Web.UI.UpdateProgress). --> Blah Blah Blah     Possibly due to declaring the newer framework?
  2. and I am still going into an endless redirect when I try to access the Host or admin settings or pages that have an instance of the indoo grid installed on them
