Hi

I have read countless, endless threads, forum posts, Google results, etc of good citizens trying to offer a solution to this seemingly common problem... The big problem is though... What is the definitive solution..?

Here's the error I get when trying to install DNN onto one of our client's servers:

Compiler Error Message: BC30451: Name 'Config' is not declared.

I've probably done about 100+ DNN installations and have never come across this... Unfortunately in this instance, I am not in control of the environment (ASP.NET version, IIS, the DB setup, etc) so I can't error-trap and try and try until I get it right. So, I'm hoping there's a definitive answer (a 2010 answer) for this - all the answers I've seen before are for DNN4 back in 2008, etc, etc...

Thank you in advance for the help.

it's indicative that the web.config file is missing/wrong - typically this means that you've deployed an upgrade version as a new install or else a source version, as neither contains a web.config. rename release.config as web.config to resolve the error. The other way this can happen is if you open the sln in vs.net - it detects there is no web.config and creates an empty one.

I thought i recalled someone blogging about this, didn't realise it was so long ago - heres a blog from 2005 - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Development/Forge/ModuleReports/tabid/970/EntryId/240/BC30451-Name-Config-is-not-declared.aspx

Hi Cathal

Thanks for your quick response. I deployed a new install version which indeed has a web.config file in it... I've installed DNN like this on our own servers hundreds of time before without any hassle.

Is changing release.config to web.config still the option that would work best..?

Also, if this is a known issue, why has it never been rectified? Also, why have I been able to install DNN "normally" without hassle before on my own servers..?

Thanks
Jon

Hi Cathal

Like I mentioned in my original post - nothing definitive out of this judging by both the date of the blog, and the comments...

Is changing release.config to web.config still my best option...?
