Hi All

Following problem: I try to move my website away from my ISP to my server at home.

I got all approbiate files: web folder include db, but the settings in the web.conf file are totaly different.

Question: What would be the best steps to do it?

(1) Create new folder with permission for NETWORK SERVICES and IIS_WSG.
(2) Copy all from your ISP to this folder.
(3) Look insite web.conf to get the name of the database and login credentials
(4) Create empty database in MS SQL 2008 and restore database with option "Overwrite the existing database"
(5) ..... ??????? .....

Because if I try know to access the the site I get error 500.
I tried to change some kind of settings but it is still not working after 3 hours I think it's time to ask other people.

That's it so far :-(

Any Idea would be appreciated :-))))

Thanks

Michael

prior to moving, add the future domain address as additional portal alias in Host portals. you do not need to create an empty database. backup database on ISP server and transfer the backup file to your local sql server. create new database from backup (restore). Grant database full permission for the user your web site is going to use for accessing the data.

Well, the following step is not possible, because the site is not existing anymore:
prior to moving, add the future domain address as additional portal alias in Host portals.

The problem is that the web.config file is different :-)
I am assuming that the version of DNN is different too.

Is their not a possibility to link the content database to an new installation :-)
The new installation is working fine...

I didn't see a point saying that you created a website in IIS for the application. You may also need to change application pool settings to allow 32 bit apps and classic mode. Then get into the database and you can find the portal aliases in the PortalAlias table. Change one of them to the domain you added as a binding for the website in IIS manager. Rob

you need to move all files INCLUDING web.config, which you may edit manually, to adopt both database connection strings to new server and account name.
