when i type the url of my website dnn converts it to its ip address. if i add the host name in iis7.5 bindings then dnn doesn't display at all.
how can i get dnn to show the url in the browser address box instead of the ip address?

this is a problem consequent to a move from an old ip address to a new one and a new iis website. i updated the configuration data in dnn under portals and hosts. there is no reason dnn should be converting my url to an ip address.

Hi Tony - The first thing that comes to mind is that your portal's alias record is setup improperly, or not completely. If you are not able to login as the Host, the other option you have is to use SSMS and check this record. If I had a new DNS registered, I would setup the site's alias using its IP as well as the DNS, within DotNetNuke (if you do this dump the IP record when you can, since I think this may adversely affects your ranking with Google). The next thing I would do is re-check your DNS record, just to confirm it it setup - and you may as well do the same in IIS for your site.

It would be interesting to hear what you receive as a URL if you did the following: Open IIS7 and drill down to your website. Find an html page or an image in the image folder. Right click and select browse (you have to be viewing content to see these files). Good luck, John

it turned out that i needed to put www.mydomain.com in the host alias record. after that everything worked as desired.
