please describe, when you get this error and what is your environment (which OS, which components like IIS and SQL Server) already installed.

I'm trying to install the Community Edition on to my computer using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer. I click install and accept the third party license terms and then the error pops up. Behind it I can see step 1 of 2 asking me to enter my site information. I have Windows XP Home Edition.

I am getting the same error message right before step 2 in the  install. can not go any further and install fails,
I have an XP home w/sp3. on a HP pavillion laptop.
I have all the neccesary SQL ... What is causing this to happen and can I try an earlier verion of DNN?

Does this error appear in a pop up in the Web App Installer?
Is there any other text showing in the pop up?
Unknown error (0x80005000) is very generic it could be coming from one of a dozen different issues.
At this point, after Googling for 20 minutes, this is a Windows error not a DNN package or code issue.
Can someone post a screen cap of just the error?
BTW, if you are using Windows XP SP (any number) you need to start planning to upgrade off that platform it's already past its end of life for support from Microsoft and at some point IIS 5.x is not going to be a viable development environment.
