Hi,

This morning I saw on my site a warning in red "CRITICAL UPDATES AVAILABLE".
I use now DNN 5.2.3.
Is there something serious going on?
Normaly I have the warning in green "Updates Available".

With regards, Ton Hermes

This is because DotNetNuke 5.5.0 was released yesterday and it contains a security update.

We rate security issues on a scale from low to critical (see http://security.dotnetnuke.com) for more - since 5.2.3 only a few "low" issues came out, but 5.5.0 has a "moderate" issue. The update checker changes to warn you of this.

I've unzipped the recommended upgrade to the 'install' folder. The red 'critical updates available' is still being displayed.... so I guess it didn't detect the upgrade? is there a step that I'm missing? The Dashboard indicates that the DNN version is: DotNetNuke 5.4.2 where do you find instructions on doing these updates?

Greetings Van ~

Yeah, I think that those of us who have been around for a long time forget that everyone doesn't know how to do this sort of thing.

Installing / Upgrading DotNetNuke is not done the same way installing / upgrading a module is.

Upgrading DotNetNuke entails copying the contents of the Upgrade zip right over the top of the existing install.  This actually replaces a lot of files in place and the application, when it starts the next time, detects these changed files and upgrades itself.  So you don't put the files in the Install folder... you actually copy them over the root of the site (you'll notice that the Upgrade package folders match the folders in your site root directory).

I am sure some other folks will post more helpful links...  but that's the basic idea.

Cheers
