I have just finished upgrading from 4.9.1 to 5.5 and the site is now in a redirect loop.  The upgrade process displayed 'success' messages from the top to bottom of the upgrade page.  I have tried the recommendations on http://www.bestwebsites.co.nz/dotnetn....  This included changing the trust level to full, confirming that there are no references in the web.config to '1.0.61025.0' versions of the AJAX libraries, and confirming that none of the aliases in the PortalAlias table have a trailing slash.  An important change I made was to moving the site from a sub-directory at 'http://efc.boisestate.edu/efc' to a root directory at 'http://efc.beta.nssg.com'.  However, I had the site running on the root directory prior to the upgraded.  The site also has a sub-portal http://efc.boisestate.edu/efc/watershed.

What else could be causing the redirect loop?

I have discovered that the home page is accessible if the tabid is specified in the URL.  This URL works, http://efc.beta.nssg.com/Home/tabid/3....  This URL does NOT work, http://efc.beta.nssg.com.  I hope that helps trigger some ideas.

Are you using a non-standard port?
Are there any secured (https) pages/tabs within the site?

You might be running into known issues with FriendlyURL's/SSL/non-standard ports combinations

please be aware, if you change site url, you need to add new url as portal alias BEFORE the change in Host :: Portals or directly in the database, table PortalAlias.
