Hello there,

I´m a newbie in dotnetnuke and I'm trying ti install it and get it runnig.

I have Win XP Pro SP2, IIS5.1, ASP.NET 2.0, MS Visual Web Developer, SQL 8

I tried to follow instructions on how to install the starter kit and it all went well in the instalation phase.

Question is when I try to see the default page I get "HTTP 403: forbidden" error!

More strangily and sorry for my rookieness is that if I´m inside visual web and try to do "preview on browser, it opens an ie with an url like this http://localhos:2540/dotnetnuke. With this url I don't get the http 403 error, but I get the "page cannot be diplayed / cannot find server" error !!!

I never really understood the difference running the project with IIS or ASP development server! Question is, I have a very simple page in visual web, and when I preview it, it works with an URL like localhost:xxxx, but if I put only localhost I still get the forbidden error (Even with my simple test page).

anyone please?

Many thanks,

Rui

Hello again!

I´m replying to myself  just to say that my problem is solved!

Many, many thanks to Eric Henson´s instalation doc I found in another post.

I just followed every step and now it all works!

Maybe I missed a step when trying to install before, but what I really think made the difference was giving permissions to ASP.net local account in my directory. That´s because I´m using XP pro + IIS 5.1. Another difference is that you have to create your site as an application in IIS.

CYA,

Rui

the HTTP 403 error happens when default.aspx is not definined in IIS as a default/index document. To correct this, open the properties of the virtual directory in IIS, go to the "Documents" tab, and add "Default.aspx" to the list you see there.

the error you get with the file based webserver that comes with VWD might have to do with the rights on the folder. Make sure that the ASPNET user has modify rights to the folder you unpacked the starterkit in

HTH

Cheers,

Erik
