Hello People,

I have moved the dnn website from one server to another. I did the following:

1. Copied the files to the new server.
2. Restored the dnn database that I had a back up from the old server.
3. Changed the web.config to point to the current new server's dnn database.
4. Changed the portal alias
5. Made sure that the machine key in the web.config  in the old and new copy are the same.

Even after doing all this  I am not able to login as a host user. There is a login failure.

Is there anything I missed out?

I would be extremely gratified if anyone could help me solve this!!!

Thanks a ton,
Anush

Did you asign the correct user to the database and with dbowner permissions?  Did you set the correct permissions to the DNN files and folders for the applicationmpool user (full access) and the IIS annonymous user read access?  Have the IIS/Application pool execute permissions for scripts and executable files?

Note if you changed to the Windows 2008 Server there are 2 modes for the application pool that could have different users.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for coming forward to help me out.

I have given dbowner permission for that user using DNN database and DNN folders permissions are given full control to everyone. Basically I am using the following versions

New Server Details

OS    :     Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3
IIS     :    Version 5.1(Hence there is no Application Pool)
SQL  :    SQL Server 2005

Old Server Details

OS    :     Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2
IIS     :    Version 6.0
DNN :    5.02( In the old Server)
SQL  :    SQL Server 2005

Note: When I have the website in new server and connect to old server's DNN database, I  could log in.

Is there anything more to be done that I missed out?

Thanks,
Anush

make sure, the sql server supports TCI/IP for server and client and login is working. For easy administration of multiple sites on WinXP Pro, I suggest using free IISAdmin from www.jetstat.com/iisadmin.

I am able to connect to SQL Server using SQL Authentication  and login is also working fine. I could even access the Eventlogs table of new server's DNN website and  LogTypeKey is APPLICATION_START.

Host login is not working. Is there anything to be done from authentication perspective?

Regards,
Anush
