Hi,

Can anyone help please?

I havent used my dev environment for a number of months but decided to do some development today.

It started thowing all types of errors at me and after looking around the internet a number of people suggested that i deleted my localhost:81 site and recreate it. which i did.

When i browse to the site in IE i get no problems at all.... everything runs as i would expect it.

BUT - when I right click on Visual Studio 2008 and run it as an administrator and then try to load the solution as i have always done so before it now comes up with an error saying...

"Unable to open the website http://localhost:81/
To access local websites you must install the following IIS components:"

and then its blank - nothing mentioned about what i need to install

Then it says

"In addition you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account"

In the solution explorer it then displays the directory greyed out and when i try to reload the project the same error occurs.

Can anyone help me fix this problem please?

Many thanks

Trev

I tend to not run via VS (I'm assuming you are for debugging). I instead run the site through IIS like normal and include debug info when i'm making modules. And if your dev server is giving errors just make a new copy from prod. That's what dev is for, break it then put a clean copy on to find out how to do what you want and not break production.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the code as i have already tested a backup of the site.

my feelin is that this is something to do with either a misconfigured IIS setting or something in VS

can anyone suggest what to try please?

thanks

if it is running well in IIS via browser, but not inside VS it is most likely an VS configuration issue. Did you configure VS to use IIS instead of built in Cassini web server?
