Hi,

I have been trying to install DNN 5.5.2 on my Win XP SP3 but in vain.

I have SQL Server 2008 Express installed.

When i run the site from Micrisoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, and navigate to install.aspx

i get a xml parser error in my firefox browser

XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://localhost:1505/DotNetNuke/Install/Install.aspx?mode=Install
Line Number 1, Column 1:

I assume you mean DNN 5.5.1 as there is no 5.5.2.

If you are trying to install the source package, did you rename either release.config or development.config file to web.config?

Also, particularly for your first installations, do not use the source package and Visual Studio or Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. Either use the install package after setting up your environment (IIS with ASP.Net 3.5 SP 1 or ASP.Net 4.0 properly installed along with SQL Server 2005 or 2008-standard or express) or the web platform installer package. The source package requires a build of the solution before it can be installed - I don't think that can be done with Visual Web Developer but have never tried it as I use Visual Studio.

Yes.  IIS 5.1, which is included with WinXP Pro is sufficient.

Please follow William's advice and use the "Install Package" instead of the "Source Package".  The Install Package is precompiled and ready to run out of the box (zip).  You DO NOT need any of the MS developer tools to get started with DNN.  This is a common confusion for new users.  Delete the source package completely and put the Install Package in its place.

Follow the installation procedure and when you are done just run the site from your browser and that should be it.  Again, there is no need to use Visual Studio at all.

 So i did as instructed.

 Now when i browse http://localhost/DotNetNuke

  the directory contents are listed.

However when i browse to http://localhost/DotNetNuke/Install/install.aspx

 I get the following error:
